#640 Memorial

Memorial, Syðradalur, Faroe Islands

About this stone

A solemn memorial shaped like a boat's bow stands here on Kalsoy, honoring the many Faroese fishermen who lost their lives at sea. The monument faces out over the waters that once sustained their livelihoods but also claimed them, creating a space of quiet reflection where the power of the ocean and the resilience of the islanders converge. It's a poignant reminder of the hardships that have defined life in the Faroe Islands for generations. The stones near the memorial tell stories of loss and endurance—approach with respect and take a moment to remember those who came before.
